Football Member's jointly organized PERMANNUR FOOTBALL CUP - 2017, an Inter
Parish Football tournament on 25th and 27th August,2017 at St. Sebastian School
ground on the occasion of the CENTENARY JUBILEE year of St Sebastian Church,
Permannur. This football tournament spanned for a period of two days with
32 teams participating from 26 Parishes.The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Melwin
C D'Souza and Mr. Ronald Fernandes, the Vice President and Secretary of Permannur
Parish Pastoral Parishad. They were accompanied by Mr. Joseph D'sa, Mr. Naveen
D'Souza and Mr Frank Fernandes.
Parish Priest Rev. Dr. J.B Saldanha, International Body builder and Ekalavya Awardee (BURN OUT Gym) Mr. Roshan Ferrao, Rev Fr. Praveen Joy Saldanha, Sports Committee Secretary Mr.Hillary Cutinho, National Power lifting Champion Mr Ashley A J D'Souza were present for the validictory function. Rev.Dr.J.B Saldanha spoke on the upliftment of Sports spirit and Unity among youths of various Parishes. He advised participating teams to fight hard for the win on the field but return home in Unity, smiling and shaking hands. State and National level power lifting Champion Mr.Ashley A J D'Souza was felicitated on this occasion. He had won gold medals in events organized at Mandya and Maharashtra and has been selected for International event in 2019 at Abu Dhabi. Our Lady of Miracles Parish, Milagres emerged as Champion's of Permannur Football Cup - 2017, dominating all the matches they played. While Infant Mary Parish, Bajjodi were Runners Up of the tournament.
The individual prizes were given for Best Defender - Gavin Pinto Milagres Parish, Best Forward - Robbin Bajjodi Parish, Best Goalkeeper - Relston Valencia Parish, Fairplay Award - Valencia Parish. The tournament was refereed by Mr.Younus, Mr.Thanveer , Ms.Deepthi and Ms.Harshitha Shetty.
The tournament witnessed a lot of support from the participating Parish members and the local crowd.The participating team's appreciated the efforts of the organizers and promised they would be back for the tournament next year.
